State College of Florida moved its plans ahead this month for a Parrish-area campus with the purchase of 74 acres of vacant land at 11680 Erie Road in Parrish.

Hugh E. McGuire Revocable Living Trust sold the property for $2,496,000. The property has historically been used for agricultural purposes.

SCF President Carol Probstfeld rolled out a new strategic plan in 2015 that addressed student retention, workforce development and the changing need of SCF students.

In part, the plan addressed rapid population growth in the Parrish area and increased demand for classroom space beyond SCF campuses in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and Venice.

Tom Brown with Wagner Realty and Tony Veldkamp, CCIM with SVN Commercial Advisory Group handled the transaction.
